On Sunday 4th February 2024, Rev. Bright Nyamedor, the National Director of the Ghana Evangelism Committee (GEC) was invited by the Bible Society of Ghana to launch the 2024 Bible Week at Global Evangelical Church Bethesda Parish La in Accra. He spoke on the topic: The Bible: Guide For Peace, Unity And Development.
The Director made a strong point that the Bible is the surest way for every nations, individuals and community in gaining peace, unity and development. This is proven in the creation story in Genesis 1:31–2:1, God’s command to Joshua when was to lead the nation Israel in Joshua 1:8 and much more the ten commandments in Exodus 20:3-17.
He emphasize that the ten Commandments are not antiquated as many may think. They are as relevant today as the day it was given to Moses. Every nation, community and individual who abides by these commands will sure gain peace, unity, and development.
He went through the commandment with them:
A. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
B. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.”
C. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
D. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
E. “Honour thy father and thy mother.”
F. “Thou shalt not kill.”
G. “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
H. “Thou shalt not steal.”
I. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”
J. “Thou shalt not covet.”
Rev. Nyamedor indicated that with a Christian population of 71.3% in Ghana, if this huge number will abide by the ten Commandments, Ghana will surely experience peace, unity, and development. Bribery and Corruption at workplace will reduce, tribalism will not gain ground, wickedness in high places will disappear and the deliberate destruction of the environment will cease.
He concluded by read out a quote from Gideon International New Testament.
“The bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to sheer you. It is the travellers map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter. Here Paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is the grand subject, our good the design, and the glory of God its end.
It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given to you in life, will be opened at the judgement and be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labour, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.”
